The roads are wider, traffic is lighter, and parking is rarely a problem. The weather is as close to perfect as you can get (except for May gray and June gloom), with warm, sunny days most of the year. The county’s overall cleanliness and lower crime rates are standout features that instantly make it feel welcoming for families.

You might hear locals refer to the “Orange Curtain,” a term used to highlight the cultural and political differences between Orange County and neighboring Los Angeles. For families, one of the biggest advantages Orange County holds over Los Angeles is its public school system. Across the board, public schools here are generally better rated than their LA counterparts. Another pro is the convenience of John Wayne Airport. Flying out of Orange County is a breeze compared to the hustle and chaos of LAX. If you travel frequently with your family, this airport is a lifesaver.

The biggest drawback? The cost. Newport Beach is undeniably pricey, but the lifestyle and amenities you get in return are unparalleled.
Huntington Beach
Known as “Surf City USA,” Huntington Beach has a laid-back vibe that’s ideal for active families. While Huntington Beach offers more of a casual lifestyle compared to Newport Beach, it’s still incredibly family-friendly, with plenty of parks, community events, and safe neighborhoods.
